Cites changes in family structure, 'new awareness of our world'
© 2001 Charisma News Service
A longtime Christian-based social service agency noted for its traditional views has decided to offer same-sex partner benefits to employees. The Salvation Army's Western Division, which encompasses 13 states, has announced it would reverse its policy on the issue - a move that will again allow the organization to compete for taxpayer money from San Francisco. In 1998, the Salvation Army gave up $3.5 million in city money rather than comply with the city's landmark Equal Benefits Ordinance, which requires city contractors to offer their employees with domestic partners - homosexual or heterosexual - the same benefits as their married co-workers. Salvation Army officials first said the law conflicted with the organization's pro-family, Christian beliefs, but now the thinking is different. "I don't think there's been a theological shift," said Lt. Col. Bettie Love
of the Salvation Army's Golden State Division. "I think there's been a new awareness of our world."

NEW YORK, NY, October 24, 2001 (LSN.ca) - "Parents would be scandalized to
know UNICEF actively promotes abortion and sexual rights to children," said Anna Halpine, president of the World Youth Alliance (WYA). "On top of that, the realization of these goals and programs are largely fueled by donations obtained from children trick-or-treating for UNICEF programs each Halloween." Over the past couple of decades, however, UNICEF's mission of direct action and service to children in need has shifted towards a stated policy of child advocacy, or the promotion of controversial 'child rights. This new direction, advanced by UNICEF's current executive director, continues to de-emphasize providing services to children in need, while favoring the promotion of programs that advance sexual and reproductive rights for children. This UN-speak translates to confidential abortion services for children as young as 10 years old. UNICEF has moved far beyond its original purpose of protecting and defending children, to actively assisting in the destruction of millions of tiny lives. With a radical 'adolescent sexual rights' agenda, which seeks to limit parental involvement and which refuses to define the limits of these terms,
UNICEF is abusing the trust which the public has placed in this supposedly child-centered organization."

A 1990 U.S. immigration law, sponsored by Sen. Ted Kennedy (D.-Mass.), instructs State Department employees that "mere" membership in a terrorist organization or advocacy of acts of terrorism should not exclude foreigners from receiving U.S. immigration visas.
Under the law as it is written, someone who belongs to a Middle Eastern terrorist group and has publicly stated a desire that the World Trade Center towers be blown up cannot, on those grounds alone, be denied permission to legally enter the United States as a prospective citizen.
But merely "advocating" terrorism, or belonging to a group that engages in terrorism, cannot be used as grounds for exclusion. "Only statements that directly further or abet the commission of a terrorist act may properly constitute a basis for denying a visa," says the manual.
St. Louis, MO -- A display of 180 crosses, meant to memorialize aborted
babies, was stolen from the lawn of a Lutheran church in south St. Louis
County Sunday night or Monday morning.
St. Louis County police said the crosses were taken from Christ Memorial
Lutheran Church, 9712 Tesson Ferry Road in St. Louis.
The 2-foot-tall white plastic crosses represented the number of abortions
performed each hour in the United States, said Diane Albers, president of
Lutherans for Life Missouri, which owns the display.
"I just couldn't believe it," Albers said. "It's kind of low to steal
crosses from a church."
Albers noticed them missing when she drove by the church Monday night.
Groundskeepers said the display was gone when they mowed the church lawn
that morning. "I assume it is someone who doesn't agree with our stand on
abortion," Albers said.
Two signs posted with the display were also taken. They read: "180 crosses
= 180 abortions an hour in the United States" and "In Jesus there is
healing and forgiveness."
Lutherans for Life Missouri owns two sets of crosses. Churches across the
state borrow the traveling displays for two weeks at a time. Albers and
five volunteers set up the display about a week ago. "It took us a couple
hours because the ground was so hard," she said.
This is the second set of crosses stolen from the organization since 1996.
The other set, which was stolen in rural Missouri several years ago, was
never recovered, Albers said.
Police canvassed the area but identified no suspects. The organization may
not replace the display, which costs about $600, Albers said.
The Pro-Life Infonet encourages you to consider a donation to help
Lutherans for Life of Missouri to replace their cross display. You can

"There are two factions at work in Washington on the issue of federalizing screeners at our major airports. The Senate seems to be in favor of making all security screeners federal employees. The House wants these screeners to be private employees with strong federal oversight. It shouldn't be lost on you that the Senate is controlled by Democrats and the House is controlled by Republicans.
"Is there some sort of a basic philosophical difference at work here? I would suggest there is. Government employees are one of the strongest Democratic constituencies out there. Government employees can be counted on to vote overwhelmingly Democratic. Government employees join government employee unions. Unions are almost unanimously Democratic. Republicans are said to desire smaller government. Republicans know that private sector employees are easier to convert to the Republican cause than are government employees.
"Oh --- and there's this: It's damned near impossible to fire government employees. An airport security screener drawing a government paycheck could allow an entire Taliban regiment with stinger missiles and howitzers through the checkpoint and it would take you six years and 36 hearings to fire him .. . and even then you would have to pay him a six-figure 'settlement'
package."

The broadcast and cable networks will once again feature a host of homosexual characters this year. The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has listed its annual network report card, identifying homosexual characters on the network and cable TV outlets. GLAAD reported that the 2001-2002 season will feature lead homosexual characters on the follwing series: "100 Centre Street", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "The Ellen Show", "Leap Years", "Oz", "Queer as Folk", "Six Feet Under", "Will and Grace", and "ER", where the character of Dr. Kerry Weaver abruptly determined that she was a lesbian last season. In recent seasons, "ER" has featured almost as many intra-hospital sexual affairs as medical emergencies. This year, series featuring homosexual supporting characters include: "Dark Angel", "Dawson's Creek", "Felicity", "NYPD Blue", "South Park" and "Spin City". And this year's series featuring recurring homosexual characters include "Friends", "Providence", "Sex and the City", "The Simpsons", and "Son of the Beach".
Breaking Sexual Ground: New CBS series "The Education of Max Bickford", featuring Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss as a weary college professor at an all-female institution, will feature the first-ever lead character who has undergone a sex-change operation. CBS describes Max's best friend as a guy named Steve who has just returned from sabbatical as the newly "transgendered" Erica. Another first: CBS' "Wolf Lake", a drama about "shape-shifters" who can transform themselves into wolves, will carry the warning that the series contains "partial nudity". ABC's "Philly" will follow in the tradition of "NYPD Blue" in terms of nudity and coarse language.

In the last several years, network television has taken the low road regarding sexuality and offensive language. This year will be no different, with new ground being broken in terms of nudity, sexuality and foul language. Network television executives are preparing a fall season that will push the boundaries of vulgarity, profanity and lewdness further than ever. The network's insistence on exploring sexual themes comes following a Family Circle magazine survey that found 77-percent of adults agree today's TV programming is overloaded with sex, sex and more sex. Much of today's Family Hour sexual content deals with topics such as oral sex and pornography. More TV shows include sexual content. Robert Peters, president of Morality in Media, said that, for more than a decade, the FCC has been "dismissing virtually all indecency complaints that do not include a tape of the program". Mr. Peters said it was clear that the FCC "has all too often turned a deaf ear and a blind eye toward the problem of indecent programming on radio and TV. He said that if Congress is serious about protecting children from indecent television content, lawmakers need to enact much needed legislation restricting indecency on at least basic cable TV channels.

Aaron Sorkin, executive producer of NBC's "The West Wing", told The New York Times he hopes to break a longstanding network taboo this season by having a character use the Lord's name in vain. There is precedent for such a move: In an episode of the series last season, the show's central character, President Josiah Bartlett (Martin Sheen) rendered a bitter attack on Christ after a staff member was killed by a drink driver. Subject: Liberal mentality, October 17, 2001
Liberals are confronting a new horror -- not the threat of more
hijackings or the looming menace of biological warfare, but a
resurgence of patriotism.
In one of its tendentious life-style features, The Boston Globe recently
agonized over all of the flag-waving since Sept. 11. "For
some people (i.e., our editors), the sudden glut of American flags is
reminiscent of the hoopla that precedes Homecoming
Week at college," the Globe sneered.
The paper cautioned readers on how easily patriotism can evolve into
militarism, chauvinism and storm troopers. "But the flag is
only a symbol, and as the comic and political commentator Barry Crimmins
says, there were a lot of flags in Nazi Germany, but no freedom."
An article in the Los Angeles Times quotes a first-grade teacher in
Madison, Wis., on why she refuses to lead her class in the
pledge of allegiance. "Mandating patriotism is a really scary thing. It
leads to nationalism and ultimately, to fascism," says Suzy Grindrod.
Why is it when liberals discuss the American flag, the conversation so
often turns to the Third Reich? Recall that these are the
twits who, in their student days, spelled America with a "k."
Though they'll swear by all that's holy (for them, safe sex and the rain
forest) that they aren't really anti-American, since the
Vietnam War, liberals have had an allergic reaction to manifestations of
patriotism.
Most of us view Old Glory as representative of a nation founded on
freedom, of the sacrifices of our military, of America riding
to the rescue of beleaguered folk from Cuba in 1898 to Europe in 1944
and Kuwait in 1991. We're proud of it, as we are proud to be Americans.
When liberals look at the flag, they see only dispossessed Indians,
racial segregation, napalm dropped on Vietnamese villages
and children making jeans in Third World sweatshops.
Even after an unprovoked attack on their homeland, by creatures so evil
Hell would spurn them, and 5,000 of their fellow
Americans dead, public-broadcasting donors just can't get over their
red, white and blue aversion.
Writing in the Sunday New York Times on Sept. 30, George Packer
explained that the flag wasn't displayed in his household
because, "Display wasn't just politically suspect, it was simply in bad
taste, sentimental, primitive, sometimes aggressive."
In other words, love of country is the province of veterans, country
music fans, guys with pickup trucks and rifle racks and
other high-testosterone, low-IQ types. Liberal snobbery meets liberal
Katha Pollitt, a columnist for the Nation, told her 13-year-old daughter
(who asked for a flag for their home) that, "The flag
stands for jingoism and vengeance and war."
Normal Americans don't view the flag as a danger to our freedom. They
don't think pledging allegiance to the flag Americans
fought under in World War II will somehow resurrect fascism.
Liberals must feel lonely in the midst of all this unabashed
flag-waving. To help them cope, perhaps Turner Classic Movies
could run a "M*A*S*H" marathon, hosted by Jane Fonda, or they could be
equipped with blinders, so they won't be visually
assaulted by dangerous displays of "jingoism, vengeance and war."

China funded a secret operation to influence the 1996 U.S. elections in favor of candidates sympathetic to the communist dictatorship, a Senate Intelligence Committee report revealed Friday.
The committee examined whether intelligence substantiated allegations that China had tried to sway the elections through political donations and other means, it said in a report of its activities during the 1999-2000 Congress.
``The answer to that question, the committee concluded, was: yes,'' the report said, Reuters news agency reported.
Most major news media ignored the bombshell development.
*****The Clinton Connection*****
In 1998, congressional Republicans including then-Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott of Mississippi claimed to have evidence of direct Chinese financing of 1996 Democrat campaigns, the Associated Press reported. "This came during a Senate investigation into the Clinton administration's decision to let two U.S. aerospace companies, Loral Space & Communications and Hughes Electronics Corp., export satellites to be launched atop Chinese rockets."
Democrat fund-raiser Johnny Chung, a prominent figure in a 1996 campaign finance scandal, has admitted helping to move $300,000 from a high-ranking Chinese military officer to Bill Clinton's presidential re-election campaign.
Intelligence information showed that the intermediary between Chung and the Chinese officer was Liu Chao-ying, the daughter of Gen. Liu Hua-qing, formerly the top military official in China, the Senate Intelligence Committee report said.
Chung was sentenced in December 1998 to probation after pleading guilty to bank fraud, tax evasion and making illegal contributions to the campaign.
``China was running a covert action against us,'' said Steven Aftergood, a director at the Federation of American Scientists, which posted the committee report on its Web site. "That's certainly a startling finding.''
The American Family Association (AFA) says more evidence now proves to
families the J.C. Penney corporation has departed from its traditional
family-oriented practices. They say profits from the company are now going to help support sibling incest and graphic violence which includes murder
for hire.
On the September 27, J.C. Penney financially underwrote an episode of
CBS's C.S.I. (Crime Scene Investigation), according to Don Wildmon,
president of AFA. "The J.C. Penney sponsored drama depicted scenes of
nudity and sex between a brother and sister, the feeding of human body
parts to piranhas, and the graphic multiple-shooting mutilation of a man
by a professional killer. This is corporate insanity," he said.
After caving into Internet sex club members over its banner placement on
an online Christian web site, AFA said J.C. Penney appears to have
forgotten the people who made them a retail giant, parents and children,
not sex addicts and television's deviant characters.
AFA
Wildmon said, "J.C. Penney has obviously decided that they have no
reservations about supporting what is offensive to a large segment of
their customer base, the American family. Even worse, they didn't mind
doing it during the time our children normally watch television."
Wildmon said the company is out of touch with the rest of the nation
because Hollywood violence and those who support it have crossed the line
of common decency. "America is growing weary of glamorized garbage," he
said.

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma School officials remove "God
Bless America" signs from schools in fear that someone
might be offended.
Channel 12 News in Long Island, New York, orders flags removed from the newsroom and red, white, and blue ribbons removed from the lapels of reporters. Why? Management did not want to appear biased and felt that our nations flag might give the appearance that "they lean one way or another".
Berkeley, California bans U.S. Flags from being displayed on city fire trucks because they didn't want to offend anyone in the community.
In an "act of tolerance" the head of the public library at Florida Gulf Coast University ordered all "Proud to be an American" signs removed so as to not offend international students.
